Iraqi T-55 AL NAJIM / AL FAW / “ENIGMA” main battle tank displayed in 2003. This variant was developed by Iraq and used as a command vehicle. The main improvement consisted of the installation of non-explosive reactive armor (NERA). This armor proved capable of defeating all Western anti-tank missiles except the Hellfire during tests conducted on captured examples. The designation “Enigma” was given by Western observers, but it was not the official designation.
